We've Moved!

Sunday night was our first night in the house and there's been a lot going on. We got all the big stuff moved and are still working on the little stuff. I have to say that those As Seen on TV straps are a miracle. Trav and I were able to move his big screen tv all by ourselves and that thing was HEAVY!

Unfortunately the camera hookup is still back at the apartment, so no pictures until tomorrow (maybe). We officially have front steps that are stamped concrete. The original concrete is a brown about the color of our siding and then we put on a darker brown and brick red as release colors that we wash off in a couple of days. The release color is what sticks in the different lines in the concrete. The plumber is almost finished. I'm thinking he might be done tomorrow. The electrician won't be out until after the first of December, but we got all of our appliances hooked up, so Thanksgiving at our house should go off without any troubles:)

We also got the upstairs fireplace hooked up and running...starting to feel like home!

Miscellaneous Update

We have done a few more things here and there to finish up the house, but it is getting harder and harder to work as it gets closer to completion. The washer and dryer were delivered today and I think I spent a half an hour just playing with the buttons:)
Travis installed the cabinet for the downstairs powder room. This bathroom will have a vessel sink.

I finished setting the tile on the front of the tub deck tonight and will hopefully get it grouted tomorrow.

We also installed the range hood

Travis also finished framing up the front entry stairs so that we can pour concrete, but it was too late and cold to take any pictures.

Carpet and Appliances

The appliances were delivered yesterday and today Travis and his dad cut out the cabinet so that we could install the oven/microwave combo. The appliances look so nice...we cannot wait to use them!

The carpet is now installed everywhere and they are coming back tomorrow to clean up the scraps. The carpet is so soft and comfortable. You can also feel the radiant heat through the carpet downstairs

Here's how the carpet looks against the downstairs fireplace

and in the Jack and Jill bedrooms

the Master bedroom

Here's what the master shower looks like with the grout dried. The floor still needs to be grouted

Trav and I also set the tile in the front entry way and I got it all sealed tonight so that I can grout it tomorrow.

Carpet Has Arrived!

Yesterday the plumber came out to hook up the hot water heater for the radiant system so that when we got everything hooked up and finalized we could get heat downstairs. We needed to get the heat going yesterday because the carpet layers need the house to be 70-75 degrees so they can properly stretch the carpet. So around 5:00 yesterday night, we got the system all hooked up. We hooked up a hose to it to start filling it with water and due to some bad flux, we sprung a lot of leaks:( It was so frustrating and what seemed to be impossible to fix because the system is not something you can just easity take apart. By 10:00 we finally got the system up and working, but it takes time to heat up all the concrete. The water was going into the system at about 120 degrees and coming back at about 60 degrees when we left and by the time we got there in the morning it was returning at about 70 degrees. We also had a little problem with our furnace, but the HVAC guy came out today and is getting it fixed for us.

So, we did get the heat up to about 70-75 degrees and the carpet guys were working away. Since the carpets are making the house feel a lot more finished, I decided I wanted to take the paper off the hardwoods. I know it will get extremely dirty again, but it was so nice to see the hardwoods!

Since we were getting carpet, we had to clean everything out, including the air conditioner that has been sitting in our basement for so long. It feels so much bigger in our basement now! You can also see how we finished out the bar face and the pole in the basement. We were also experimenting with the copper in the bar, and it was not turning out like we had hoped.

The downstairs fireplace had been hidden for so long by pieces of sheetrock too, so it was nice to see the fireplace again.

Here are the pictures of the radiant system. The top portion is where the water goes into the ground hot and the lower portion is where it comes back after travelling through the ground.

The pipes then run over to the water heater and then it is all one big recirculation loop.

We finally painted the theater room black, but it was not as easy as we were hoping. The wainscoating was prepainted, so the finish was not even. Some places were shiny and some places were dull. So, we tried to sand it off and the columns then got some white highlights showing through giving it an antique look, but the wainscoating wouldn't sand to look the same. So we decided to paint it again, but this time with a flat/matte finish. Thanks to the patient efforts of my dad, we got the theater room looking good again. I still haven't cleaned the lens of my camera so the spots in the picture are from my camera and not in the room.

So upstairs, there is tack strip and carpet pad down and in the master, the carpet is laid out and two of the seams were radio waved together. I think the radio waves is somewhat of a newer technology, and it works great because I don't think I could find the seam anymore.

I forgot how big the master bedroom was too, until we took out the tub that was sitting in the middle of the room.

Here's one last picture of the hardwoods again...

Master Shower and More

I almost finished the shower this weekend, grout and all. I ran out of grout, so basically everything is complete except for the floor needs grout. Mocha wanted to take credit for all the work as she tried to be in every picture I took of the shower.

Here's her new corner to spy on the neighbors and take naps:)
This is actually an outdated picture of the radiant system, there are a lot more pipes running out of it now.

This is the faucet in the guest bathroom
We have had a lot going on this last week and as usual it has been a rollercoaster. On Thursday, we got running cold water in the house (not hot water yet) and we got one functioning toilet...or so we thought. Turns out the toilet leaked and the plumber had to come out on Saturday to fix it. On Tuesday we start getting carpet, so we have lots to do in the meantime...

This and That

The radiant system is coming along. There are a lot more parts that are put together, but this is what has made it on the wall so far. Travis also put down the workout room floor which is extremely dirty already. We still will probably put some contact cement below the flooring. Either way, Mocha reallly likes it.

The electrician came out the other day to do some more final hookups and one of the things they did was hang a ceiling fan in our master bedroom.
I did just a bit more on the shower. With the walls starting to get covered, it is looking a lot more finished!

The plumber also did a few more hookups and has starting running pipes to hook up the faucets, but still no running water yet
