We headed back to the cabin to feel like there was a change in Groundhog Day. Bryant was practicing his head stand so he could try it on the paddle board.
We had some visitors, but still maintained our 6 feet of social distancing ;)
Root beer and creamsicle floats!
Lots of lake time and lots of leeches
Not sure how these got out of order, but these were on the trip to the cabin. We were stuck in road construction for forever. I thought dogs were supposed to stick their heads out the windows...not kids?
Looks super comfortable...
The kids caught tons of creatures and seashells in the lake.
Wearing their life vests as swim diapers
Then it was back to Helena for more baseball!
Garrett's fortune is so true...he does have a magnetic personality!
Bryant has been asking for a long time to go backpack camping, so we headed out one weekend to check out Globe and Sailor Lakes. Nothing like prepping for a hike with a Mountain Dew!
Don't be fooled by this picture...Bryant said his pack was awkward to carry and made it about 100 yards, then Travis and I got to pack it up the mountain.
It was supposed to be less than a mile hike from the trailhead, but the road was so bad that we couldn't drive to the trailhead. We parked where the sign said 3.5 miles, but my fitbit told me otherwise. We hiked at least 7 miles in and I had over 8 miles by the end of the day. Considering it was a waaaayyy longer hike than anticipated, the kids did pretty good. And it was absolutely beautiful and we had the lake to ourselves that night.
Garrett loved the hatchet and if you ask him his favorite part about the trip, he'll tell you it was that it was axin' stuff. The picture didn't show up in my downloads, but he even started axin' a tree in our backyard while we were packing for the trip...
He thought he found a Christmas tree for his bedroom while we were up there too
Our dinner was less than spectacular as shown by Bryant's expression.
We were going to attempt fishing and packed all the poles, but left the lures back at the truck and there was no way we were walking back just for lures. So lots of little fish got to keep swimming around that day.
Drinking his filtered water
We weren't sure how the trip would go, so we only planned on staying one night. No one slept that great and we knew we had a long walk out with 2 tired kids, so we didn't stay too long.
Super tired kiddo when we made it back to the car. Someone was holding Garrett's hand the whole way down because he kept slipping and falling. Trav and I weighed our packs after we got home and I think his was 60 some pounds and mine might have been 40. Ugh!
Then a trip to the dentist - hooray for cavity free!
Ready for the throw at first base!
and Bryant too!
Then it was time for our annual trip to Fairmont to visit Aunt Sheri and Uncle Carl. I didn't get my annual picture this time though :(
Fun in the pool!
and playground
and of course feeding the animals
We always love their visits and were lucky enough to get to see them one more time in Helena before they headed home.
We headed to Lincoln one weekend to check out the sculptures park. It was a nice little walk with some pretty cool and some pretty odd art.
I think the kid's favorite part was getting an ice cream swirl afterwards.
This was our celebration beer for getting (and accepting) an offer on our house. Such a huge stress relief!
Sleeping away at Grandma and Grandpa's house
Grandpa Ed and Grandma Betty bought a house in Helena right around the same time we did. We helped get their yard done for them and Garrett was pretty stylish helping in Dad's hat.
Some days he can go without a nap and some days, he just crashes. Clearly, I take a picture of every one of those crashes.
That's it for August!
